About

As a performer I strive to play music for people in a way that speaks directly to them and invites them into the musical world I am creating. When I perform, my goal is to transcend the personalities of the performers on stage, the virtuosity and skill required to play the cello, and instead communicate directly with the listener's inner emotional self in a way that music so uniquely and effectively can.

Making music is something that anyone can do, and everyone should do. As a teacher I strive to inspire my students with a love of music and the cello. I aim to help my students clarify their musical goals and lay out a path for them to succeed in achieving those goals.

Here is my musical biography:

Jason Mooney began playing the cello at the age of nine, and has over ten years of professional teaching and performing experience. Jason earned his bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University where he studied with Anne Martindale Williams, principal cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and his master’s degree from Southern Methodist University where he studied with soloist Andres Diaz and principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony Christopher Adkins. Jason has performed in chamber music collaborations with Andres Cardenes, Gary Levinson, Yuriy Bekker, Michael Klotz and Maureen Nelson, and has attended some of the country’s most prestigious music festivals for young musicians including the National Orchestral Institute, Meadowmount, Garth Newel, Miami Music Festival, and Brevard. Jason was featured on Pittsburgh’s WQED 89.3 fm where he played J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1. Jason was also invited by the general consulate of Mexico to perform a recital of Latin American music at the Rio Grande Theater in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
