Being an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR instructor since 2019 has been an enriching and challenging experience. I am tasked with educating students on the proper techniques for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) which is a huge and serious responsibility. This usually includes demonstrating and explaining the correct hand placement, compression depth, compression-to-ventilation ratio, and other essential skills. I try to help guide students through hands-on practice sessions and provide feedback and individualized attention to help them learn these skills. I aim to create an interactive and supportive learning environment by encouraging participation, answering questions, and addressing concerns about this crucial life-saving procedure.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an AHA BLS CPR instructor is knowing that the skills I teach can save lives. By equipping individuals with the ability to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies, I feel like I contribute to building a better-prepared community to handle life-threatening situations. Witnessing my students' progress and seeing them gain confidence in their abilities can be incredibly rewarding.
