My name is Maj Barkai and I’m a Certified Dog Obedience Trainer (Animal Behavior College Dog Obedience Trainer graduate-and honors recipient ABCDT) and behaviorist who uses positive reinforcement and the theory that setting a dog up for success results in a happier more engaged and eager training program. I’m experienced in behavior modification and integrating reactive dogs into a polite social lifestyle. I tailor every training program to the individual dog, family and lifestyle and the goals and challenges the family is experiencing. Any time I address an unwanted behavior, I always offer an appropriate choice that enables the dog to make the right decision themselves, resulting in a calmer, more stable and confident animal. Not to mention it generally quickens and deepens the lesson as it’s a self correcting technique.
The most rewarding part of my work is to help the two and four legged members of a family unit to better communicate and to understand the needs and wants of each other. By learning basic obedience a dog can be kept safe by being under control and behaving appropriately. After working with rescue groups and shelters for decades and witnessing so many dogs being “surrendered “ (thrown away) simply because the guardians never took the time to teach the dog manners and appropriate behavior I dedicated myself to doing anything I could to help keep dogs in safe, loving homes. This gives my life meaning and I can’t think of a more heartwarming and fulfilling job.
