Matthew began his legal career working at the Spokane County Public Defender's Office in Spokane, Washington. During his 2 years in Spokane, Matthew represented individuals accused of DUI and other alcohol related offenses. In 2006, Matthew left Spokane to work in Seattle, Washington at one of the largest criminal defense law firms in the State. While there Matthew represented thousands of clients accused of a wide variety of criminal offenses. It was during this time that Matthew built his reputation as a skilled trial attorney and a tireless advocate for his clients.
In 2010, Matthew began his own law practice and opened Leyba Defense PLLC, a Seattle DUI and Criminal Defense firm focusing on DUI Defense and serious traffic offenses throughout Western Washington and its surrounding areas. Matthew is a NHTSA qualified administrator of the standardized field sobriety tests, the same tests every trooper and police officer is trained to administer. He is also an experienced trial attorney, having litigated over 100 jury trials to verdict, most often winning favorable results for his clients. Matthew's practice is devoted 100% to litigation, and currently has an incredible 90% success rate of getting a DUI dismissed or reduced to a lesser offense. He is also a frequent lecturer on DUI and criminal trial related topics. Most recently Matthew was a guest speaker at the Washington Young Lawyers Division Trial Advocacy Program where he shared his expertise and knowledge in jury trial preparation and organizational skills.
Matthew has seen the inside of a courtroom almost every day during his career as a criminal defense attorney.
