We service 1/5 of Texas spanning from Weatherford, TX to Bossier City, LA and from Killeen, TX to Sherman, TX, an area larger than most states encompassing up to 3 hour one way trips from our base in Rockwall, TX. Such distances incur substantial costs in terms of incurred inbound labor, fuel and vehicular expenses before anyone arrives at your job site. Therefore, no matter what Thumbtack indicates, we must pass along that cost to you at the rate of $85 per nominal hour of inbound travel.
Our profit margins are minimal as we prefer to bill incurred hourly labor. Overbilling is against our reputation. No one here is a professional estimator, we do not pay for such expertise, therefore, we generally do not provide binding estimates.
Our billed labor rate charges are by incurred risk, overall liability and inconvenience. Homeowners whom want Saturday, Sunday, or weekday evening after 6pm, services for their own convenience are billed a 50% surcharge for our inconvenience. Our holiday and overnight emergency response rates incur 100% surcharge over weekday rates for our inconveniene.
For most carpentry related tasks our weekday per journeyman labor rate is $95phr + trip fee + materials @33% markup + tax if appropriate. [For hanging heavy artwork, mirrors and TV sets, if heavy duty wall anchors are required we charge $3 each even if Thumbtack says included in labor fee.]
For most bath and shower related tasks our weekday per journeyman rate is $95phr + trip fee + materials @33% markup + tax only for commercial use.
For most appliance and exercise equipment repairs, our weekday per journeyman labor rate is $130phr + trip fee + 33% parts markup + tax. All parts to be ordered must be prepaid, including shipping and handling fees, exercise equipment is taxed.
For most cabinet work our weekday per journeyman rate is $100phr + trip fee + 33% material markup if any, no tax if cabinet permanently fastened to dwelling. Furniture cabinets must be taxed.
For wall oven installations our weekday labor rate is $130phr + trip fee + no tax.
In rare occasions we can utilize apprentice labor at $45phr weekday rate or $55phr weekend and evening rate. Our apprentices are always paired with a skilled journeyman.
(Qualified permanent home improvement is not taxed in Texas. Curtains, blinds, drapery and hanging pictures do not qualify, ditto for landscaping, they must be taxed.)
Our forte is solving unusual and complex homeowner problems that other contractors do not have the expertise, equipment or experience to solve. As we get repeat requests for unusual tasks, we develop better means of more accurate and swifter task completion.
We now manufacture stainless steel brickweep screening in response to the advancing threat of crazy ants. In response to an increasing interest in yoga ribbon and yoga swings, we manufacture an ultra safe yoga ceiling eyebolt rated at 3,000 pounds. To address many clients concerns about varmints digging under slabs and decks, we developed a means of installing a subterranean rebar curtain to a depth of 6ft at 2 inches apart. For new homes needing cabinet pulls and handles we custom modified a portable drill press to assure that every hole is perfectly aligned and no marring of the cabinet surfaces. For microwave oven installations we have developed a plastic see thru template that greatly speeds up the accurate drilling of the cabinet above. For wall ovens we acquired an aluminum hydraulic jack that makes no complaint no matter how long it has to hold the heavy often 300~700 pound oven. Such is our style to ever find better ways to accomplish your tasks with reliability and precision.
We pay our journeymen and apprentices a living wage, a fuel stipend, a daily lunch and provide all the Power Aid that they can drink as it gets more than just hot on a good Texas summer day. All of our staff are natural born law abiding USA citizens, all have more than 40 years of home improvement experience. In the past 50 years none of our staff have ever earned a law enforcement citation for anything, not even a parking ticket, "squeaky clean folks."
Note: Fees invoiced will always include both applicable trip fees, material fees, plus actual Thumbtack lead fee regardless of any wording otherwise provided by Thumbtack. We do not waive these fees. Since all fees on Thumbtack are competitively selected by the client, no fee modification is allowed after work has started.
