Welcome to KuumbaFit!

My Story:

My name is Jazz and I’m a NASM certified personal trainer. I began my wellness journey in 2018 after graduating from veterinary school. Like many, I had always struggled with my weight, but the stress of school and other life circumstances 10X that challenge. I went into school approximately 170lbs and graduated at 220 lbs.

I became concerned about acquiring health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. I realized that the activities that I loved to do, such as outdoor activities and dancing was challenging physically and mentally. I also realized that I was not fully living and showing up in life the way I wanted due to insecurities and a lack of confidence. I was afraid that my fitness, health, and lack of confidence would prevent me from living my best life. I had to make a change!

So I changed my diet and began to get active doing what I love, which is dance! I began to see the weight steadily come off and within a year I lost approximate 70lbs eating delicious food and engaging in activities that I enjoyed. The goal wasn’t to just hit a healthier weight. The goal was to create a lifestyle shift, so that I can boost my self-confidence, increase my vitality and live life more vibrantly. I have created that lifestyle shift and feel grateful for all that I have learned and gained on my journey. As I continue my journey, I am ready and excited to help you begin yours.

KuumbaFit’s Focus:

The meaning of Kuumba is creativity in Swahili. KuumbaFit uses the creativity of Afro-modern/Afro-beats dance to build stamina, stability, flexibility, and strength. KuumbaFit also creatively incorporates traditional forms of exercises in the form of interval training to build a well-rounded fitness program.

KuumbaFit is a holistic approach that focuses on creating an enjoyable lifestyle program that improves individuals’ fitness, health and overall well-being.
