I hold a BFA degree in Voice from Carnegie Mellon University, a MM degree in Opera Performance from Yale University, as well as an AD in Opera from the Academy of Vocal Arts. This extensive training and many performance opportunities help form the basis of my teaching technique.
As a teacher, I aim to empower each student with the knowledge to further their growth, depending on their ultimate goals in life, by equipping them with the tools to help themselves. I put great focus on confidence, presence, breath, and calmness; for when a person is calm and confident, they are unafraid to try new things or be bold in performing new things. When a person is present and knows how to breathe, then they are able to be vulnerable in their singing and have more of what they have intentioned come out of their mouths and happen in performance. I build from the ground up-stance, breath, vowels, language, interpretation, performance. Once ingrained, these attributes take life not only in singing, but in every facet of the student’s life.
It is my goal to help others see the beauty and meaning of music, and thus the hope and praise that inspires it. This joy and sharing is what I enjoy passing on to my students as they begin or continue their musical journey.
