To become an Enrolled Agent, Jimmy had to pass a comprehensive exam that dealt with every aspect of the tax code. Not only do Enrolled Agents need to pass this exam, but they must complete 72 hours of continuing professional education every three years. Unlike CPAs and attorneys, Enrolled Agents receive their right to represent taxpayers from the U.S. government.
