Stephenson County, Illinois Section 8 Voucher Waiting List

The Winnebago County Housing Authority (WCHA): Stephenson County Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. It was last open for four days in June 2022 and five days in February 2017 prior to that. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application. When the waiting list opens again, it is expected this online application link is what the PHA will use.

This opening had several preferences including:

• Families whose Section 8 voucher was terminated due to a lack of funding
• Families who live or work in Stephenson County, Illinois
• Veterans or surviving spouses
• Working families
• Victims of natural disasters
• Families referred by Department of Children & Family Services
• Children aging out of foster care
• Nursing home residents who can live independently

The 2022 opening was by random lottery and unknown number of applicants were placed on the waiting list. In 2017, 300 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery.
