The Spartanburg Housing Authority (SHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The SHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from November 14, 2022, until December 14, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Any family that has been terminated from its HCV program due to insufficient program funding (10 Points)
  • Families who are a current resident of Spartanburg County (10 Points)
  • Families who have been displaced due to action taken by the SHA for demolition or rehabilitation or sale of unit in which the family is currently housed (10 Points)
  • Families who are verified as working 30 or more or hours per week for six consecutive months, elderly, handicap, and/or disabled (7 Points)  
  • Families who are homeless or have been displaced due to local, Federal or State governmental action (5 Points)
  • Veterans (5 Points)
  • Victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking (5 Points) The applicant must certify that the abuser will not reside with the applicant unless Spartanburg Housing gives prior written approval.
  • Project-based voucher holders who applied for HCV assistance at the time the waiting list was open and have currently completed the requirements of their contract within the PBV unit and are in good standing (1 Points)
  • In the event the family does not qualify for any preference, they will be placed on the waiting list within the date and time of application. (0 Points)

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.
