How to Apply

The application may be completed online at https://www.vsha.org/applications-for-section-8-assistance/.The application may be picked up in person at the VSHA office, located at One Prospect Street, Montpelier, VT 05602, from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.The application may be printed out from https://www.vsha.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Full-app-including-HUD-forms_releases_8.2022-1.pdf.The application may be requested by phone at 802‐828‐1991.

The Vermont State Housing Authority (VSHA) is accepting Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications for households that qualify for the Disaster and Move-up Housing preferences on April 1, 2024 at 8:00 am ET, until further notice.

Please note: To qualify, households must be eligible for one of the following preferences:

  • Disaster Preference: This preference is available to families who are displaced due to fire, flood, natural disaster, or condemnation by a local, State, or Federal Agency.
  • Move-up Preference: This preference is available to families who are currently receiving rental assistance through a time limited program administered by VSHA and in compliance:
    • VSHA Continuum of Care Program- Rapid-Rehousing
    • VSHA Family Unification Program for Youth in Transition (FUP-Y)
    • VSHA Foster Youth to Independence (FYI)
    • VSHA Continuum of Care Program- Shelter + Care

There are four ways to apply while the waitlist is open:

  1. Complete the online application that is available on the VSHA website.
  2. Print the paper application.
  3. Pick up an application from the VSHA office, located at One Prospect Street, Montpelier, VT 05602, from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
  4. Call the VSHA at 802‐828‐1991.

This waiting list has the following preferences:
