I specialize in what I call "mindful movement yoga." The movements will be very few and very slow at first. Once you've developed a sense of the anatomy and the breath, we can decide together how physical you want the practice to be, but my focus will always be on proper alignment in any pose and strong breath support. I enjoy teaching absolute beginners as well as intermediate or advancing students. I enjoy private, one-on-one lessons as well as group sessions. Regardless of who is there and what the expressed intent, I will keep bringing our time together back to the form and breath. This is, to me, the essence of a yoga practice.
Yoga, done for physical fitness or spiritual meditation or any other reasons, will change the person that you are. The alignments are, to me, very healing, and I feel gratified when my students tell me that they are experiencing less pain, easier mobility, and more confidence in their movements. Yoga improves breathing -- makes it deeper, more deliberate, and more powerful. It creates focus from nothing! There are a million reasons to love it, and I'm on board with all of them. Whether you want to use it to get fit, lose weight, find peace or become a better person, my answer is "yes."
